Have the option to mute users in your timeline.
Please, add silent/mute button for hashtags and users.
Mute Button would be great! Sometimes i want to mute some users who spam my TL, but not unfollow them, just mute
I'd like to be able to filter tweets OUT of my stream based on keywords. For example, I'd like a place to be able to have a place to enter #yelp #4sq #getglue #blip etc so that I never see tweets in any of my columns containing those words.
I have several streams based on keyword search that I monitor through Hootsuite. These streams pull in tweets from various twitter accounts using my keywords, but that are totally unrelated to my topic (e.g Ciena our company name vs Ciena as a person's name).
I'd like the ability to "ignore" all future tweets from specific twitter accounts as a way to "clean up" the keyword streams that I monitor.
Stop spam from sources like "via Growth Memory", "via firstname.lastname@example.org" etc
Such an opportunity exists in TweetDeck, Hotot...
Help us from SPAM in hashtags (e.g. #samara #avtosamara)
As it once worked in twitter http://blog.twitter.com/2008/05/how-replies-work-on-twitter-and-how.html
As it works currently
And as it's possible to configure in tweetdeck:
Checking “Include @replies from your friends to others” in TweetDeck options still lets me “eavesdrop” on my friends.
I like to have a twitter tab containing timeline, mentioned and RTed. I want to be able to silence the timeline so i only get buzzed when i get a mention or RT, but can still see the timeline without changing tab.
Echofon has a Mute Function that allows for muting users, and muting trending topics.
Some people just seem to add updates that are not relevant out of boredom or who knows. I don't want to necessarily unfollow them but sometimes Muting is needed.
A mute or muzzle feature would be nice, so I can tune out a friend w/o unfollowing.
It would be nice to have the ability to filter tweets from certain users in a specific stream or better yet, to filter tweets contaning specific words on that stream.
please please please add mute feature for users, hashtags, etc. all are adding that feature now
Often, the answers to other users occupy the bulk of tape and at the same time bear minimulnuyu meaning. There is a sense dobavt option to disable showing responses to other polzovataley in the main belt.
Sometimes a friend may be at a conference machine-gun tweeting with a hashtag. It would be great to be able to mute that user or that hashtag for a pre-determined period of time, so the mute would expire after the number hours you set.
By doing so users could create specialized lists that they only read on their corresponding feed column and would be out of the home feed, by doing so users would be able to filter out lists from the home feed and read them only when interested
I would like to be able to mute certain twitter people and hide facebook updates. I'm overwhelmed with updates from products, TV shows and friends who post too much without anything to say. I would love to be able to "hide" updates like I can on the facebook site.
I'm getting a lot of spam in my searches, and I'd like to be able to mask it by hiding tweets from regular spammers. Sure I can -remove them from the search query - but that only works for 140 characters, and my searches are picking up lots of spammers. So I'd like a hootsuite-wide mask list - that I can add users to - and then tweets from them never appear in my hootsuite.
You know how some people you follow tweet 10 times in a row or @ reply to everyone and their cousin. It would be nice to be able to just "ignore" or "hide" their tweets for 24 hours or 1 week or 1 month without unfollowing them. If I completely unfollow them I may never come back to them but hiding someone for a little while would be nice sometimes.
There are people that i have decided to unfollow for various reasons.
These aren't "bad" people worthy of an official block or spam flag. They just don't use Twitter the way I do so I'm not interested in their clutter.
Since I usually don't remember who they are (I have a large follower base) I occaisionally re-follow them, only to then unfollow them again when they do whatever it was that turned me off the first time.
I'd love to have a way to flag people that I don't want to follow - that's just for my own use, not official with twitter or anything - so that I can recognize and not re-follow them.
We’ll examine ways to mute users in specific streams.
Mute hashtags! These "chats" are really just spam.

agree with those suggesting:
1 - mute individual user
2 - mute hashtag/word/phrase
3 - mute list within stream
have the mute default to (say) 24h, with option to set exact expiry time or make it permanent until revoked, and when revoking, always display list of all current filters?
Not just users, hashtags as well it must be very simple to do that at the same time.
Yes - let's revisit this asap! Other apps offer this feature.
This needs to be brought up for discussion again! In my community, there are multiple Twitter accounts that are bots, and are clogging up streams of hashtags that I have to monitor for work with a pointless post every few minutes. I have reported them, but it hasn't done anything. I would give anything to be able to "mute" these accounts and make them disappear!!

Along these same lines, I'd like to be able to filter out a list from my Twitter stream. For example, I have a Twitter list named "media" - this list is full of very chatty people. I would like the ability to see tweets from everyone I follow with these chatty media people filtered out.

I have another great idea. http://feedback.hootsuite.com/forums/40182-hootsuite-com-web-dashboard/suggestions/4373073-request-feature-uploading-images-by-url-
Vote if you agree!
No, its not mute users - its mute topics - like bloody football. It can be done on other devices, come on Hootsuite, if we can put 'football' in a column, it can't be that hard to add a mute option.
sorry to be blunt: but you must be kidding us: you are "considering" this option since October 2011? Hello? It is August 2013? 2 years to think about a feature that is obviously needed and a no brainer.

really need & want this feature
Would be great to be able to mute some hashtags... like #royalbaby #yolo and the rest... Ruining my timeline!
It would be nice to be able to block people we are not following.
I'd like to be able to filter out tweets that are completely in a foreign language.

This can't come quickly enough.
I had Echofon (now defunct for Windows) and I really miss this. I've tried Twitbin, which has the feature, but users don't stay muted on closing and reopening the browser, so it's useless.
I'd like to be able to mute until I decide to unmute, not the Twitter client.

We need the ability to mute users and hashtags _in the timeline_, not just in a search. This is fairly common twitter client functionality - and it's there in Seesmic. When are you going to integrate the platforms?
Muting hashtags is equally, if not more, important than muting users. Something like Tweetdeck's Global FIlter would be ideal.
Just now checking out alternatives and HootSuite was dumped because of lack of mute for users. MG's use case below is exactly why this feature is important to me.
This is needed, examples of when it works.
1. i love my friend Jeff's tweets from Monday to Friday but on the weekends it's all #NFL and it's not something i'm interested in... muting #NFL (like tweetbot on the mobile) allows me to tailor his tweets to my liking. Much like following weekday Jeff and not following Weekend Jeff... Filter fixes this.
2. My friend Paul just went through a breakup, now while i'm a nice supportive friend he's kinda gone on this "love quotes" thing so i woud like to mute him for a week until he gets over it. I don't want to unfollow him just kinda give myself a break without hurting his feelings.
3. I have zero interest in pope news and it seems half my timeline is talking about it this week, muting the tag #POPE or the word "pope" will simply remove any tweets but allow all the awesome people i follow without removing anything else (i also muted "middleton" when the royal baby tweets filled my timeline)
just my examples of how lovely this is for tailoring your timeline.

While I like the idea of muting users, I like better the idea of muting themes, like words or hashtags.
