We need the ability to mute users and hashtags _in the timeline_, not just in a search. This is fairly common twitter client functionality - and it's there in Seesmic. When are you going to integrate the platforms?

Muting hashtags is equally, if not more, important than muting users. Something like Tweetdeck's Global FIlter would be ideal.

Just now checking out alternatives and HootSuite was dumped because of lack of mute for users. MG's use case below is exactly why this feature is important to me.

This is needed, examples of when it works.
1. i love my friend Jeff's tweets from Monday to Friday but on the weekends it's all #NFL and it's not something i'm interested in... muting #NFL (like tweetbot on the mobile) allows me to tailor his tweets to my liking. Much like following weekday Jeff and not following Weekend Jeff... Filter fixes this.
2. My friend Paul just went through a breakup, now while i'm a nice supportive friend he's kinda gone on this "love quotes" thing so i woud like to mute him for a week until he gets over it. I don't want to unfollow him just kinda give myself a break without hurting his feelings.
3. I have zero interest in pope news and it seems half my timeline is talking about it this week, muting the tag #POPE or the word "pope" will simply remove any tweets but allow all the awesome people i follow without removing anything else (i also muted "middleton" when the royal baby tweets filled my timeline)just my examples of how lovely this is for tailoring your timeline.

While I like the idea of muting users, I like better the idea of muting themes, like words or hashtags.

+1 if tweetbot and slices can do it, you can surely do it as well!

Spent a bit of time discussing this idea with the Hootsuite helpdesk team.
You can "mute" out people in your search field by using the minus option (-), example of mine below where #qldpol is the hashtag.
However, the field is limited in character length by Twitter and Hootsuite are not able to alter it.
Only other suggestion I had was to make a similar feature to the auto scheduling which is available to Pro users where by you enter all the names of Tweeps you want to block into a file and then upload it some how. When a new irritant comes along, you just add them to the file and re-upload. Not sure if that can be done, maybe the character length is still an issue with this.
Important feature down here in Australia as we are now in an election year and the country is deeply divided into left and right wings. Would be beneficial to block out the annoying feeds from people who swear at you, don't back up their statements with sound links, general mistruths and obscurantism.
#qldpol -EndlessDeficits -Redrues -DesHoughton -Dean_Moss -ZZiillaa -blackkunt -gtwarrior47 -Matthew_rj -Auspol_Ebooks -TheFacelessSpin -LaborFAIL -TedTBall -NoDirectAction -Brian_R_Allen -DM900rr -BevForte -GI_Gillard -BashedByDrunks -AxeCo2Tax -Prronto -LaborDirt -henkluf -brucemills -julesmoxon -mymatemike -DaKwozzie -gvandersee -M_Mulcahy -Qlder -the33g -drppretendersen -RussellEgan -Yalboroo -Wobbly_one -dotnetnoobie

Wonder what happened to this idea?

+1 for this idea. Many Hootsuite competitors already have options to mute hashtags or users.

Would be great if there's some way to filter out users that already follow you -- good way to find new people to follow.

+1 for this: I've started using the feature on TweetCaster for iOS and I can't believe how much easier it is to stay in-tune with the content that matters (while still maintaining relationships with people who matter).

Hi, i love the twitter through Hootsuite and i wanted to use it but it doesn't have a mute option. It really makes difference so please find a way to add this option.

I used to use Twitter through Hootsuite for a long time, then trolls started posting in my favorite hashtags. Being unable to mute them forced me to use another platform.
Please add this feature so I can go back to Hootsuite.
Thank you.

Over 2 years later and still no sign of this basic feature. Is it a case that hootsuite is dead, or are they going bust or something? Time to move to an app made by a more proactive company i think, these deadbeats are yesterdays news.

Hi Chris - can you give us any sense as to whether muting certain users might be a near-term feature?

I don't want simply to block one or more users, I'd like the facilty to stop any of my search keywords bringing up users whose names contain that word. For example, if I search on the word "peregrine", I'd like to exclude tweets with @***peregrine*** There's simply too much chatter appearing in searches that is just not relevant.

Hey guys... How long before we have the ability to mute users? I've reported and blocked @_dlittleprince as a spammer for at-mentioning me multiple times, and yet I still see his @mention of me in hootsuite - which is very annoying given his stupid animated gif logo.

I really need it too to mute the x-factor tweets. I was able to do this in Tweet Deck but I prefer using HootSuite now. Come on guys, can you just allow us to exclude any tweets with certain keywords from appearing in Twitter streams? This would be an extremely useful feature and feels like it shouldn't be a huge amount of work for you guys. :)
