allow users to switch between old/new style ReTweets at the time of tweet instead of in Preferences
Supporting the new style of RT's is GREAT! It allows some tweets to ignore the 14 char limit by handling the user name differently. That said, there are times when I want to comment on an RT and times when I don't, so I'd like to swap between the old/new styles of RTs more easily. GIving me an option right after clicking the RT button would be perfect.
We’re happy to announce that you can choose the style of RT at the time of message composition! Check out more information on the HootSuite blog – http://blog.hootsuite.com/hoottip-re-tweet-style/

Nope, this doesn't work. Unchecked the box and still it doesn't work. I cannot edit the tweet first.

Still waiting, still looking for at other vendors. Will let you guys know if I find one that has all that hootsuite does plus a better retweet function.

I would add more votes, if I had more left. But this sounds like how ReTweets should have been implemented in the first place. The current implementation is very restrictive.
While we are taking about other clients/services, Seesmic Web does this too - they call it 'Quote'.

This is becoming such an issue for me, time wise, I'm hunting for another product to manage twitter and facebook. Would rather stay here...please fix soon.
BTW, are you keeping any stats on how often those of us who switch back and forth, how much they do it relative to the number of tweets they have in a day?

I spend way to much time switching back and forth. I could cut it in half if I knew what the setting was at the time I went to retweet and of course another half if you allowed us to toggle.
If you do allow us to switch back and forth easily, why not have two options available with the Reply Retweet Direct Message that are currently there...maybe...API Retweet and RT Retweet?
FYI to anyone who needs to keep track of their retweets, the API Retweet does not show up in the Retweets by me stream (it's a twitter issue). So we use old style RT all the time.
That presents a message length issue. Would love to see something like tweet-longer also available with old style RT, but that's another issue I voted for too. :-)

Not only does Tweed do this, but so does Tweetdeck. It can't be that difficult

I wanna use 3 types of tweets properly.
[1] Official Retweet : never change quoted tweet.
[2] UnOfficial Retweet (with RT) : add my comment and never change quoted tweet.
[3] Quoted Retweet (with QT) : add my comment and change quoted tweet a little bit (when it's too long, etc). Some twitter clients have supported it.It's not useful to change them by Preferences.
Because I use them equaly, then I have to change many times.
I want to choice them when I submit a retweet.Could you consider?
Sorry my poor Engrish, I'm not native English speaker.

Come on, we've been asking for this for a long time (other request like this one have been deleted), we want to be able to switch on the fly which kind of RT we want

more than 6 months, 39 votes and even not a planned stats to this simple feature (just add a drop down menu to chose between already implemented methods when Re-tweeting)? It could be done in a bit.

We could have the ability to choice this, just when you click "retweet"

Tweed for WebOS does this, and it works beautifully. I'd love to be able to switch back and forth between RT types when I'm not using my mobile.
