After review, we must decline this feature request. As a Twitter Product Partner, HootSuite must take special care to not violate Twitter’s Terms of Service, specifically articles I-5-A, I-5-D, and II-4-B (https://dev.twitter.com/terms/api-terms)
Please note that while TweetDeck once had this feature, Twitter has since removed it. We must comply with Twitter’s wishes, and will therefore not implement this feature request.

Folks, Neither I (nor other supporters) are advocating expanding the size of tweets...besides, the Twitter API wouldn't allow for it, anyhow.
What we're advocating, and suggesting, is having a service like twitlonger...where a longer message can be edited, and then the tweet that actually makes it to twitter is shortened with a link to view the rest of the message.

Just wondering, as the submitter of the suggested functionality:
I didn't mean for Hootsuite to override the length of a tweet...I meant something like a Hootsuite hosted service like TwitLonger. The owl already hosts a service for uploading images and making them available for viewing, and I was thinking that a twitlonger service would be an option.
Thank you for considering my suggestion, though.
