Offer the option for pop up notifications (especially desktop client).
I like the sound notification. But that is only for the live tab. We loose out on what is going on in the other tabs. Especially if we are working on other documents and have hootsuite in the background. A optional notification for all tabs would be great. A optional pop up would be even better. Again...for all tabs. Not just the live tab.
I wish saved searches got their own notification icons. Currently you will only get one notification for multiple searches. If there are alerts for multiple searches simultaneously, you will only see one of them. Also it might be nice to have a notification center, so you could see a list of recent activity.
It would be really great to have a little pop-up when a stream receives a new tweet, update etc.
We need a light spot on tabs to know where the message comes!!
It's one thing that makes me switch to other clients unwillingly is the notifications that I receive via Twitter. Mentions, DMs, and Retweets should be notified by Hootsuite in order to truly make it a standalone client.
I have a few tabs in my Hootsuite for different social networks, but when one if open, I won't notice if there's a mention in another.
Therefore, I suggest adding some sort of notification center. This could be an icon with a badge that shows how many unread messages you have. You should be able to set which notifications you'd want to receive (think replies, DM, searches and messages on FB/G+).
Add notification HTML5 for Chrome
Chrome has been endlessly buggy for me, so I've moved back to Safari on OS X and it seems like a no-brainer to add Notification Center support.
Please add an option under column preferences on the desktop application to allow a notification pop-up like the mobile app. I manage multiple networks for different clients and every now and again a client will run a promotion that needs to be micro managed. It would be great if I could set up individual notifications specific columns rather than the current setting of all notifications on or off. Right now I have notifications turned off because I do not want to be notified of activity for all of my accounts. If I did so, the notification pop-up would never go away. TweetDeck already has this feature, so it would be a great way to have a more competitive product.
One thing that would having me use this over TD all the time is a pop up option. So when i am on another tab a notification of sorts.a pop up with a chime to it
Allow HootSuite users to see notifications from those who respond or like an initial posting I have made to either Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare.
would <3 to see you guys add SOUND to your app so i can tell when new mentions/DMs come in!
Push notifications for hashtags, dms, mentions. Also, live streaming, make this for the web dashboard and iphone app
A new feature I'd like to see added is the ability to set Alerts/Notifications for when a specific person you're following tweets.
Person A is following Person B. Person B tweets and Hootsuite pops up a small notification window (similar to the profile/bio window when you click on a person's username) and it displays Person B's most recent tweet and gives Person A the ability to quickly and easily Reply to or RT the msg or DM Person B.
New Follower Notification - Either in a Pop Up Window or Tab
New HTML5 interface is amazing. Have you planned implement HTML5 Notifications? (http://www.webkrunk.com/2010/05/31/html5-notification-example/)
I've heard that you guys are against building an Air app. How about supporting the HTML5 Notification API? I've seen conflicting information as to its acceptance as part of the W3C Spec, but I have found examples of its use.
I was using tweetdeck before and I much more prefer Hootsuite to it, except for one feature. I like how Tweetdeck will have a pop-up notification in the top right corner when someone you are following tweets, regardless if I have the app window open or not.
Add a popup feature that will be display when a colum is update
Basically the idea would be to have a unique sound for mentions, DM's, etc, and the ability to mute or unmute notifications for each column.
Google Chrome will soon support desktop notifications. The DEV build already has support.
HootSuite can take advantage of this feature to let us know of new tweets, especially mentions and DMs.
Check http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2271156/chrome-desktop-notification-example for a full discussion.
Only receive a notification when you have a mention or when you have a specific search column. Not with every update.
I just downloaded Hootsuite for the Mac after using TweetDeck forever. I'm loving hootsuite, however miss the integration with Growl. I feel like I can't keep up with all the tweets because I don't have the notification bubble going off in the corner
We are currently reviewing the possibility of Growl support. We’ll continue to provide you with updates.
Is this still possible? Can you use Google Chrome's pop up notifications? :)
Surely this has been reviewed by now? It's a must have feature for Hootsuite!
We need pop-up notifications with audio and the ability to turn on/off per stream.
Notifications should also be active for Tabs in the background.
Please add this support! Its been 4 years!
I like the sound and browser flash but it only works for the current tab. Can you make the tab flash or something? Missing response time and opportunities. That would be great, thanks.
I'm currently on the free trial package and are seriously thinking to quit because of this ...
I hear sound then when i go on hootsuite how to know where is a notification? i have 50 accounts and around 15 tabs i need 15 min to look all that...

I have another great idea. http://feedback.hootsuite.com/forums/40182-hootsuite-com-web-dashboard/suggestions/4373073-request-feature-uploading-images-by-url-
Vote if you agree!
You've been "reviewing" this for TWO YEARS NOW. It's time to SOGOTP. It's getting annoying. It's obvious that people want this feature. Lesser apps like Janetter already do it. Is there a reason you don't bother? COME ON.
+1 for desktop notifications of new tweets via Growl or something similar, until then I think a lot of us still will be using Tweetdeck solely for this reason.
Also a full notification displaying all 140 characters, not just the first line or two of text would be highly preferred.
Totally agreed - we need desktop notifications as soon as - like others have said I can't be watching Hootsuite all day 'in case' someone tries to interact with our multiple brands, but need to be prompt to reply if someone does - that's the whole point of trying to manage social media accounts effectively. Come on Hootsuite, we need this one!

This is a must have feature if you have migrated from TweetDeck. This and the inactivity timeout are the 2 things keeping me from being a fan so far.

With so many users (like myself) considering migrating from Tweetdeck to Hootsuite, I'd highly encourage you to put this option on the front-burner. Tweetdeck's desktop client's "Pop Up" notifyer was a very useful tool; no matter what I was doing on the computer I'd see "breaking news" in the corner of the screen when it came up. I'd really LOVE to see this added to Hootsuite somehow...

Currently under review......... Let's get on with it, people! Don't expect that Hootsuite is so important that EVERYONE sits around watching it for updates! Just implement notifications for every client everyone's asked for, like Tweetdeck does natively, but I'm getting off TD before they close up the desktop / Android versions in May 2013! Feel special I jumped over to HS and get to the functionality already!
Wow. This idea (and the 'Under Review' status) is now very o-l-d ... Are you *actually* considering this feature? HootSuite is great in so many ways, but actually very poor in the core function of social media which is *conversation*.
The lack of timely notifications (in browser-based app and in iOS apps) is bewildering. A user cannot engage in a conversation if they are unaware of replies. Imagine having a face-to-face conversation with someone who only spoke every 30 minutes or longer. It doesn't work. This is how it feels to use HootSuite, compared with using TweetDeck and SproutSocial.
HootSuite effectively *hides* conversations (no (real) notifications, recent replies/mentions/DMs etc. hidden away on tabs). This is a huge gap (obvious omission) in HootSuite's feature set.
Even in the iOS apps, the 'notifications' appear in the app badge, but then when the app is opened, there is *no* indication as to where these recent messages are (i.e. on which tab). Truly useless. Please let us know if you are taking this feature request seriously. Or will it remain 'Under Review' for another 2 years?

Please make it notify for all tabs. Currently I have HootSuite open 4 times in my browser, just so I get notified of all. But don't use Growl, it's annoying.

I really want to see Google popup notifications
This would be really good for those of us who use twitter to watch hashtags and interact with people. Until this happens, i can't use HS as my primary twitter client, as tweetdeck has this. Please make it happen!

Funny, my first weekend with both Seesmic Desktop and Hootsuite open, each has pluses. I like the little sound from Hootsuite and the pop-ups from SD. Hopefully the acqusition makes both possible (and optional of course;-) -- I also hope you add ability to up/downsize the type. Oh and SD makes it FAR easier to tweet a link - copy it in, it auto-shortens. With you guys it's not only a separate field BUT you then have to click 'shorten.' Um, no;-)
