Have the option to mute users in your timeline.
I get a LOT of mistweets as a first name handle. Sprout does this via archive feature. CoTweet does (or did) this via a delete this tweet feature allowing you to remove a mis tweet from view.
This also helps hide all the annoying posts where people who don't think ahead to where their posts go link third party apps like Facebook, Pinterest, etc and send tweets to Twitter.
I follow several tweeps who market their goods incessantly, but I don't want to unfollow them because they could use the support, and they offer good info inbetween the marketing. However, they fill up my home feed and I can't see anything else from my REAL tweeps. I'd love it if we could use an exclude list to filter out unwanted tweets for those tweeps we don't want to unfollow outright.
For a lot of handles that get bots tweeting at them or have automated tweets, looking at authentic mentions or tweets can be cumbersome sifting. Having the ability to filter or hide a certain handle's tweets in a stream would be helpful.
Some people spam certain hashtags, it would be great to be able to block their Twitter handle so they won't appear in the feed.
Let me add words, hashtags and usernames to ensure that they don't appear in my Twitter or Facebook stream.
Please, add silent/mute button for hashtags and users.
Mute Button would be great! Sometimes i want to mute some users who spam my TL, but not unfollow them, just mute
I'd like to be able to filter tweets OUT of my stream based on keywords. For example, I'd like a place to be able to have a place to enter #yelp #4sq #getglue #blip etc so that I never see tweets in any of my columns containing those words.
I have several streams based on keyword search that I monitor through Hootsuite. These streams pull in tweets from various twitter accounts using my keywords, but that are totally unrelated to my topic (e.g Ciena our company name vs Ciena as a person's name).
I'd like the ability to "ignore" all future tweets from specific twitter accounts as a way to "clean up" the keyword streams that I monitor.
Stop spam from sources like "via Growth Memory", "via firstname.lastname@example.org" etc
Such an opportunity exists in TweetDeck, Hotot...
Help us from SPAM in hashtags (e.g. #samara #avtosamara)
As it once worked in twitter http://blog.twitter.com/2008/05/how-replies-work-on-twitter-and-how.html
As it works currently
And as it's possible to configure in tweetdeck:
Checking “Include @replies from your friends to others” in TweetDeck options still lets me “eavesdrop” on my friends.
I like to have a twitter tab containing timeline, mentioned and RTed. I want to be able to silence the timeline so i only get buzzed when i get a mention or RT, but can still see the timeline without changing tab.
Echofon has a Mute Function that allows for muting users, and muting trending topics.
Some people just seem to add updates that are not relevant out of boredom or who knows. I don't want to necessarily unfollow them but sometimes Muting is needed.
A mute or muzzle feature would be nice, so I can tune out a friend w/o unfollowing.
It would be nice to have the ability to filter tweets from certain users in a specific stream or better yet, to filter tweets contaning specific words on that stream.
please please please add mute feature for users, hashtags, etc. all are adding that feature now
Often, the answers to other users occupy the bulk of tape and at the same time bear minimulnuyu meaning. There is a sense dobavt option to disable showing responses to other polzovataley in the main belt.
Sometimes a friend may be at a conference machine-gun tweeting with a hashtag. It would be great to be able to mute that user or that hashtag for a pre-determined period of time, so the mute would expire after the number hours you set.
By doing so users could create specialized lists that they only read on their corresponding feed column and would be out of the home feed, by doing so users would be able to filter out lists from the home feed and read them only when interested
I would like to be able to mute certain twitter people and hide facebook updates. I'm overwhelmed with updates from products, TV shows and friends who post too much without anything to say. I would love to be able to "hide" updates like I can on the facebook site.
I'm getting a lot of spam in my searches, and I'd like to be able to mask it by hiding tweets from regular spammers. Sure I can -remove them from the search query - but that only works for 140 characters, and my searches are picking up lots of spammers. So I'd like a hootsuite-wide mask list - that I can add users to - and then tweets from them never appear in my hootsuite.
You know how some people you follow tweet 10 times in a row or @ reply to everyone and their cousin. It would be nice to be able to just "ignore" or "hide" their tweets for 24 hours or 1 week or 1 month without unfollowing them. If I completely unfollow them I may never come back to them but hiding someone for a little while would be nice sometimes.
There are people that i have decided to unfollow for various reasons.
These aren't "bad" people worthy of an official block or spam flag. They just don't use Twitter the way I do so I'm not interested in their clutter.
Since I usually don't remember who they are (I have a large follower base) I occaisionally re-follow them, only to then unfollow them again when they do whatever it was that turned me off the first time.
I'd love to have a way to flag people that I don't want to follow - that's just for my own use, not official with twitter or anything - so that I can recognize and not re-follow them.
Hello everyone. Thank you for your feedback.
While we do not have this feature at this time, we are looking towards the possibility of getting it on our features roadmap for future updates to the Hootsuite web dashboard.
Thank you all for using Hootsuite, and thank you for your patience.

So I have to actually unfollow someone to get them out of my stream if I choose to use Hootsuite? I can't just mute them like I can on the actually Twitter site? This makes no sense.

Sad this isn't implemented 5 years after being submitted, and it seems like such a simple thing to do. My biggest gripe about Hootsuite is the inability to easily block spam accounts that completely flood my streams with junk.

I'd like to have this as I sometimes want to mute innapropriate Tweets
I hope Hooutsuite can filter specific words that appear in the stream line then removed them and-or filter unwanted person in the stream line.
That this doesn't exist is a reason to switch clients. Got a 250-tweet convo going on in my @ mentions, and the only way to stop it is to block someone I don't want to block. Speaking of blocking, I need a different client for that too. I've given Hootsuite years to implement this basic functionality. You can get lost now.

Yes, please! My streams are all Twitter searches which ignore blocked users. I try to block out spam accounts by adding -userName to the search criteria, but it doesn't always work if they have things like underscores in their names and I've got dozens of usernames in my search string. Please, PLEASE put in this simple feature for me to add a list of user names to filter out.
Sarah, I asked for that maybe a year ago, I think others did too, so don't hold your breath. :(
Not just mute USERS but keywords please??? Don't want to have to switch to Tweetdeck.

I would LOVE this feature, because my city's current hashtag was taken over by some spamming foreigners and it's so hard to follow local tweets with them filling up the feed with crap.

I really don't know what all the fuss is about. Unless you are on 24/7 and watch every tweet? You are never going to see every tweet. Second, you followed the guy, if he is spammy, then Unfollow him. Lastly, I NEVER unfollow, mute of have to mute anyone. I have found people that are censorious, and judgemental have other issues besides, and this is the tip of the iceberg for them. My Vote for Hootsuite? None of these people have given reason why it's even important, Twitter is adding a mute button, but I think it's ridiculous. And I have 4 million followers ~ I am a believer in Free speech, people have a right to tweet what they want.

Mute users in web version (not just iOS)
While I would like a mute per stream, I would upvote adding a MUTE/UNMUTE link on Twitter accounts ASAP
Every mobile app I've had in the past three years has a mute feature or added one eventually. When I used TweetDeck, the mute feature was a godsend. That is, until Twitter bought and ruined that platform, which led me to HootSuite. The fact that you all can't seem to take the time to add something so simple is disheartening, and has me looking for other options and platforms for my computer.
"Under review," for over two years? Really?
I stopped using Hootsuite months ago because I can't mute a user. Include this feature and I'll be back.
I fully agree with Jay Stevens' post on Oct 30, 2013. An option to permanently and temporarily mute users and hashtags in main Twitter stream is the most important missing functionality of HootSuite to me (both desktop and mobile versions).
This feature is so important to me I can't use Hootsuite without it. You've been talking, time for action.
Mute hashtags! These "chats" are really just spam.
